Good Morning All Saints’ Family,
It was a busy weekend at All Saints’. Friday evening the wedding of Laura Hill and John Lucchese took place in church and it was also our annual Penny Social. Both events took place at the same time, so it was a very crowded all around the church. Both events went well and our Penny Social raised $1,165.00! Thank you to all who donated items and baked goods and to all whom came and supported our fundraiser.
Sunday morning was sunny and warm-a beautiful day. There were nearly 200 in attendence for the Day of Pentecost and Confirmation. We welcomed our Deanery friends from Grace, St. John’s and Zion, while St. George’s celebrated with Father Benitez on his last Sunday there. We welcomed The Right Rev. Lawrence Provenzano as celebrant and preacher. The service began with two preludes, “St. Patrick’s Breastplate” and "Stand Together", an original song by our own Tom Espenshade. These were followed by the Processional Hymns, “Come Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove” and “We Are Marching In The Light of God.” The Gradual Hymn between the Lessons was, “I Want To Walk As A Child Of The Light” and the Sequence Hymn was, “Caribbean Hallelujah.” The Gospel Reading was from John 14:8-17, 25-27.
Philip said to Jesus, "Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, `Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you."
We learn from this passage that we do not have to see God in order to believe of his existence. The Presentation and Examination of the Confirmation Candidates Ashley Agyeman, Daniel Batashoff, Dominique Earle, Justin Obiol and Anna Palmieri by Bishop Provenzano was then conducted followed by the Baptismal Covenant. The Offertory Anthem was, “It Was Well With My Soul.” The Communion Hymns were, “Let Us Break Together On Our Knees”, “Seek Ye First” and “Sanctuary.” The Recessional Hymn was, “Sweet, Sweet Spirt.” Congratulations to our Confirmands! A big thank you to Arkady Leytush and our band, The Crooks, performing all the service music. Our band members are Teddy Byrne, Lawrence Vodopivec, Charles Oluoch, Andy Hornback, Daniel Bosko, Diana Gilday, Sydney Simpkins, Robert Lewis, Tom Espenshade and Greg Thompson. Also, a big thank you to Donald Lege for his decorating with the balloons for our festive day.
There was a wonderful celebration luncheon hosted by the Deanery churches in the Common Room and back yard. There was heroes, salads, hot dogs, pulled pork, baked ziti and drinks for all to enjoy. This was followed by wonderful cakes, brownies and cookies for dessert. It was a wonderful day at All Saints’ with beautiful weather, fellowship and food with our Deanery friends and Bishop Provenzano!
